Congratulations to the wrestling team for an outstanding season. At Dual Meet States in Dover, the team wrestled their hearts out, eventually losing to Hodgson Vo-Tech in the finals 35-34. Losing a close match should give the team the motivation they need to continue to work hard in the offseason. Furthermore, it also stresses the importance for the team to get their friends to come out for wrestling. Even with the team forfeiting 3 weight classes throughout the year, the team still managed to finish the season with a 12-3 record.

At individual states, Mark Ardecki grabbed 3rd place and as a junior has another year left. We are looking for him to move to the top of the podium next year. Ryan Wolfe secured 4th place as a sophomore in a very stacked weight class. Ryan’s loss in the semi’s spoiled his goal of making it to the state finals. He has placed 4th at states twice in his career. Alex Zwier, a junior also pulled down 4th place showing that he has the heart to win it next year. Freshman, David Summerfield wrestled like a seasoned veteran, losing the last match before the medal round. He will continue to wreak havoc on his opponent’s for the next 3 years. Sophmore Nick Gattinella lost a heart breaker the first night which will give him the motivation to work hard in the off season. Nick will also be a force the next couple of years beating a few state placer winners throughout the year. 10th grader Jeremy Casey has all the tools to place high on the podium the next two years. He is putting the time on the mat and in the weight room. 10th grader Logan Bolander has made great strides and continues to work hard every practice and during the off season. Logan will be a state qualifier next year. Ibahem Awad is a real sleeper who continues to improve each year. As a freshman he has so much heart and continues to give 100% every match. Special Congrats go to Seniors Joe Polansky, Mark Williams and Phil Catone for their major contributions this year. Without those guys coming up huge in many duals, the Bucs would not have been as successful as we were. I would also like to give a special thank you to the 8th graders who stepped-up to the varsity this year. They are Matt Boylan, Matt Young and Austin Walker. Next year we are going to need those guys to help fill our holes and help the team get back to the state finals. Next year it is the team’s goal to bring to Caravel the first team state title in school’s history. Also, special thanks to the parents who without their support and encouragement the team and the individuals would not have been as successful as we were. Thanks! GO BUCS!

As the 2010 wrestling season has reached the final stretch, the Caravel Academy Bucs have put themselves in good position heading towards an important part of our schedule. Right now the team is 6-1 in dual meets and ranked #1 in the state for Division 2. The team also had an impressive win at the Delcastle Invitational, but we can’t stop there. Now is the important part of the season where it is imperative that the team stay’s focused on the goals we set in the beginning of the year. The team needs to continue to stay sharp, train hard, and eat right these next 5 weeks. The best moment in life is when you start believing in yourself. If we sacrifice, work hard and persevere (staying in the fight and refusing to give up), we can become Caravel Academy’s first Dual Meet State Champions while crowning Conference and State place winners. Remember, believe you’re a state champ and train like it!
